President Biden has declared he is pardoning every person convicted of simple marijuana possession under federal regulation. He’s now urging governors to excuse those convicted on state possession indictments.
“Sending people to jail for possessing marijuana has upended too many lives — for conduct that is legal in many states,” President Biden tweeted on 10/06/2022. “That’s before you address the clear racial disparities around prosecution and conviction. Today, we begin to right these wrongs.”

Marijuana is currently legal in 20 states, and a few other states have decreased criminal penalties, according to DISA, a large drug-testing company that tracks state legislations concerning marijuana.
